From my experience, I found that using a robot lawn mower with a remote control feature in the app was the most convenient and efficient method. It allows you to easily define the mowing area without the need for physical markers, making the setup process much simpler.

Additional anti-theft tactics need to be used

While robot lawn mowers offer convenience and efficiency, they also pose security risks, as I learned from a recent incident in my neighborhood. Despite activating anti-theft features on the mowers, one of them was stolen from a neighbor’s lawn without triggering any alerts. This highlighted the limitations of the built-in GPS systems in the robots, which rely on LTE connectivity for tracking outside the property.

To enhance the security of robot lawn mowers, it is advisable to take additional measures such as installing security cameras, tracking tags, and 4G cards. Testing the anti-theft features by simulating a theft scenario can help ensure that the system is functioning properly. Placing an Apple AirTag inside the robot is also a popular method for tracking its location in case of theft.

Robot lawn mowers work best on uncomplicated lawns

While robot lawn mowers are designed to handle various terrains and obstacles, they perform best on flat, level ground with minimal obstructions. Lawns with complex layouts or small obstacles may pose challenges for the robots, requiring homeowners to make adjustments to optimize their performance. Creating clear boundaries and removing obstacles can improve the efficiency of robot lawn mowers and prevent them from getting stuck during operation.

If you want lawn tracks, get a heavier mower

One of the aesthetic benefits of traditional lawn mowing is the distinct lines left in the grass after each pass. Heavier robot lawn mowers are more likely to leave visible tracks on the lawn, similar to traditional mowers. While lighter models may not create as pronounced lines, they still offer the convenience of automated lawn care without the manual effort.

Overall, my experience with robot lawn mowers has been positive, despite encountering some challenges along the way. The convenience and efficiency they provide outweigh the drawbacks, especially for those who dislike manual lawn mowing.
